Have you ever gone through heart ache?

I am in my first relationship lasting one year and a few months. We both have unconditional love for each other. We've gone through breaks that leaked me empty. One break he said he wanted to start a new path. He wanted to find himself and be a better person without me because he thinks he is holding me back. After tears on both parties I agreed to let him go. Less then a week later he came back. Now I ask him if he has the same feeling of wanting to start a new path and he says he doesn't know but does know that he loves me more than anything. I am so scared he'll end up saying he does really want to start a new chapter. I can't imagine life without him. We are long distance and have been since the school year until the end of this semester. I am attending the same college as he next year. My only sister and only brother just moved out so now I'm even more lonely home. He gets to go to a university where there are always kids around. Please give me advice, any will help.
