One asian guy in our fraternity were calling "Ginger", is this cool?

There's an asian guy pledging for our fraternity. One night we played shots and ladders and he was a ginger kid who was underprivledged. The name stuck pretty well. Is it funny to call an asian "Ginger"? Or just plain stupid?
